Check out this epic battle! The Martells and the Lannisters plotted against the Tyrells. At the last minute, the Baratheons decided it was too epic a battle to miss, so they came and supported the Tyrells. the Red Viking and the Mountain, despite setting their (very unsettle-able) differences aside went against Mace Tyrell and Patchface and LOST (lolwhut). I played the Tyrells. I may not have won in the end, but this made my day. Yay for tides of war. #thismademehappytoday

Fried black beans and corn in cilantro. Everytime I make something that we would have eaten in a restaurant, I learn how much cheaper, more nutritious, and more fulfilling it is to DIY. #thismademehappytoday

THE DAILY PIC: This floor sculpture is from the solo show by William Powhida that just opened at Postmasters gallery far downtown in New York. Powhida, an artist and activist, is best known for trompe-l’oeil canvases that look like lists of what’s wrong with the art world, written on lined looseleaf paper then blown up to wall size. Powhida’s gripes have plenty of humor, but also some of the anger and cogency of Luther’s 95 Theses – and almost no chance of sparking a reformation. The new sculptures, sadly, seem to admit as much. They are made from big sheets of thin metal, pierced and painted and then crumpled. Their looseleaf sheets are blank, as though Powhida had thought to write another screed then given up on the attempt. But the sheer scale of his gesture of giving up tells us that there’s plenty at stake. (For once, it’s worth reading the press release, if only for Powhida’s coinage of the lovely term “overculture”, which he uses to describe the elite points of view which now defeat any “counter-” or “sub-” that an artist might offer.)

I discovered a couple of ways we’d been playing a boardgame wrong, and that the corrections improved it a lot. A friend came over and we tested the corrections out. I won the game too, by a mile! #thismademehappytoday
